The President's Message for 2012 Updated March 2012
2012 signifies another milestone for the Western Australia Chinese Chamber of Commerce. Over the past 25 years, the Chamber's role remains unchanged. Essentially, it is a self-funded commercial organisation representing small and medium sized enterprises. Our primary task is to develop increased trade and investments for our members, and our focus is directed towards the countries of South East Asia and China which offers our members the greatest business opportunities.
The world today is a vastly different world from when the Chamber was established in 1987. Although the global financial crisis continues to affect the world economy, China's booming economy and its appetite for resources and commodities has continued to make Western Australia one of the major beneficiaries of this phenomenon. In the latest survey, Western Australia leads the nation in population growth, employment growth, economic activities and retail turnover. Perth has also been identified in a recent global survey as one of the fastest growing cities in the world.
In order for WACCC to remain as a major platform for business networking, we need to ensure the relevance and effectiveness of our programs. The recent survey conducted based on our membership profile has resulted in the Chamber's decision to focus on Agribusiness, Migration, Education, Tourism and Resource sectors. The Chamber is also currently developing an on-line platform to facilitate Trades and commerce between our members and Asians countries where previous Trade links have been established. Our first E-News was launched in March 2012.
I hope that the coming year will see the Chamber continue to forge a good working relationship with the State Government and various relevant local and overseas government agencies to promote bilateral investments between Western Australia and countries in Asia, in particular; China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam. This is important if the Chamber is to articulate the issues and business orientations of its membership as well as the needs of the Asian and Australian business community in Western Australia.
Last but not least, on behalf of the Western Australia Chinese Chamber Of Commerce, I extend our sincere appreciation to various Federal and State Government organisations, Overseas Consulate, Chambers and Federations, past and present Council Members and Sponsors for their contributions and support over the past 25 years.
Yours Sincerely.
Mr Khoon Tan President The Western Australian Chinese Chamber of Commerce Inc.
